With the ban on sales of new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars in the UK from 2035 (the current Government intends to bring it back to 2030), and the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate setting manufacturers yearly targets for EV sales, there is a push for increased EV adoption. The main source of greenhouse gas emissions from the UK's transport sector is the use of petrol and diesel in road vehicles (See the full report: No.1 below).
An Electric Vehicle being driven in the UK produces three times less lifetime CO2 emissions than an equivalent petrol or diesel car, so EVs are critical to the UK's overall reduction of emissions. Also, backed with huge investments from manufacturers, they are safe, high quality, modern cars that are a pleasure to drive. Over 90% of EV drivers would not return to a petrol or diesel car and a similar number would be likely to recommend them to family or friends (See 2 below).
However the reality remains that EVs are not as widely understood as they could be, and lack of knowledge is a significant barrier to EV adoption. A poll of petrol car drivers by YouGov for the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has found a ‘poor’ level of knowledge of electric cars, and this ultimately affects their vehicle choices (See 3 below).
Misinformation and myths also abound, further muddying the waters and reducing public confidence in EVs. A Lord's committee report on EVs has noted the concerns about misinformation, as well as the other barriers to EV adoption (See 4 below). This report also recommends that "clear, accurate messaging" is made available.
Simply EV was founded with this context in mind. We want to support our customers with factual, unbiased, and politically neutral information so that your decisions about EVs are rooted in fact, not fear. We approach EVs from the driver and family perspective. What motivates us is a genuine belief in the value of EVs and their adaptability for contemporary work and family life.
